Baby Hummingbirds

This spring was the first time
I ever saw a Hummingbird's nest.

(see those teeny tiny little leaves decorating the nest?)

Have you ever been so lucky to see baby hummingbirds?

To see them up close... right outside your window?

Right on your patio where you sit every single day?!

I guess momma bird felt welcome...
I do have a lot of cozy birdie decor inside and out.
(You all know how much I love my birdy decor.)

I watched that little momma bird make her nest,
sit on her eggs, and feed her babies...
ALL BY HERSELF!

I admit I helped out during a few terrible windstorms
by tying a guy wire from the branch to the chair.
I was so afraid they be tossed out or whipped against the wall.

There were even some very cold nights!
One night momma bird didn't even show up to sit on the eggs.

I was a nervous wreck!
I was sure the eggs were gonners.
I even felt those little eggs and they were so cold!

Now... don't worry...

It's not true that you can't touch the nest
or the mother won't come back...
because birds can't smell!

( New research indicates that some birds
do actually have a sense of smell)

Needless to say the momma returned.
But in the meantime I had become very attached to them.

I couldn't help it...
I named them Tic and Tac.

Then one morning...

Cute little twin Hummingbird babies!
Facing in different directions.
In a few days I found out why they were sleeping like that.

LOOK OUT!

They were shooting out "poop rockets"!!!

I found out the hard way...
All I can say is be very careful when
getting  an "up close" look at baby birds!

By the time they left the nest
they were reaching a distance of 2-3 feet.
No kidding!

The patio furniture was well within that range
and even though I cleaned up after them every day
it just wasn't safe to sit out on the patio.

Then finally sadly it was time for them
to venture out into the world.

They were even bigger than this by the time they flew the nest.
I have no idea how they squeezed into it towards the end.
They had to perch on the edge of the nest the last few days.

I enjoyed the experience, however I would rather
they nest on someone else's patio next time.
Between all the worrying and cleaning,
they wore me out!

Thanks for visiting today.

Celebrate Independence!

We need to celebrate our independence every day!

I hope you all enjoy our country's most important holiday by remembering the reason why we celebrate.

A Raggedy Ann and Andy Fourth

This family of rag dolls come to visit me every year. This year they are perched on top of my hutch in the dining room.

That little maple bench is one that my father made over 50 years ago. It matches the pine finish on the hutch moulding.

The pine finish will soon be updated to a much darker Cherry finish to match the entertainment cabinet. In fact, so will the dining room table top and coffee table top.

This flag belonged to my husband's uncle.
It is old and has only 48 stars.
I think it may be made out of wool.

There are more Fourth of July posts from last year. Just click on the pictures on the sidebar to view them.

I hope you all have a wonderful
4th of July and stay safe!

Triple digit weather!

I told you I would be back in July.

I have missed all of you!
Even though I admit to lurking around at times,
I still have a good bit of catching up to do.

Summer is the time I spend the most time indoors.
Not because I like to, but out of necessity!
Read on to see why.

Saturday was 122 degrees in Palm Springs...
but 'only' 121 degrees down the road in my city.
The overnight 'low' was 90 degrees.

On top of that we actually have some
humidity happening (44% in the morning)
with some hazy clouds all day, ugh!

Yes... the heat is on!

The record here for July was 125 degrees on July 28, 1995.
The highest August temperature recorded was
123 degrees on Aug. 1, 1993.

After last year's heat AND unusual humidity
I had planned to leave and head for the hills during
July, August and maybe September.

We'll see how that goes......

In the meantime I will spend my days doing some  interior projects
and sharing what I have been up to
for  the last six months.

I Will Be Back... soon!

I have been busy
working on my self image.

Poster from my personal collection.

Not only how I look...
but how I project myself to others.

I don't think it is ever too late to improve your image.
Please take a moment to view this short video

It just might make your day.

Words are powerful...

Be VERY careful what you allow to sink in to your own mental factory and be equally as careful when speaking to others, especially those you care about.

Words can destroy just as easily as they can build up.

Try it out...

You might just surprise yourself!

I will be returning to my blog in July.
I have missed all of you!

Happy New Year!

It is hard to believe that another year
has passed by so quickly.

Do you toast the New Year with a glass of Champagne?

Do you make New Year Resolutions?

Or are you like me...
enjoying a quiet evening at home?

Whatever your traditions to "Ring in the New Year",
I hope it is a safe one.
